Sterling Silver Maori Circle Hook Pendant.
These hooks were designed to resemble the traditional Maori Fish Hook pendant. The Maori people wore the fish hook as a sign of respect and reverence for the abundant ocean as well as to provide protection, luck and safe passage on their journeys.
The hooks were also used as a practical tool for fishing and were often decorated to show respect to the oceans' creatures. The inside barb on their hook was significant to the fishermen as they would turn it upside down and hang their catch to dry while keeping it out of the reach of predators.
The hook is solid Sterling Silver and measures 1 3/4" by 3/4" wide.
